Under a 2020 law targeting “reactionary thought,” the regime reportedly carried out public executions of teenagers simply for watching the global hit series.
These forced public spectacles are used as a chilling deterrent to crush any curiosity about the outside world. However, despite the reign of terror and a corrupt legal system where wealth can sometimes buy a way out of punishment, foreign culture continues to circulate through underground networks. It is a tragic reminder that for some, the freedom to watch a simple video is an act of ultimate resistance.
