Selon les informations rapportées, la police répondait au comportement jugé « indiscipliné » d’un demandeur d’asile palestinien sous le coup d’une procédure d’expulsion. L’homme aurait endommagé un téléviseur après avoir appris le décès d’un de ses proches à Gaza.
Alors que son épouse demandait à pouvoir l’accompagner, un officier de police l’a violemment projetée au sol avant qu’elle ne soit traînée par les forces de l’ordre. Enceinte au moment des faits, la jeune femme a déclaré être entrée en travail précoce cinq jours plus tard, donnant naissance à une petite fille prématurée. Face à la polémique et à l’émotion suscitée par ces images, la police néerlandaise a annoncé l’ouverture d’une enquête officielle pour faire toute la lumière sur cet incident.
